How people pleasing and overgiving is keeping you stuck and broke. Learn the 4 boundaries that will help you reclaim your energy and attract the abundance and respect you deserve.
Are you people-pleasing and over-giving? Exhausting, isn’t it? Often we overgive because we are trying to control how others see us or because we feel it is our role as lightworkers but what we are really doing is draining our energy and blocking abundance.
When you give out of obligation, fear, or guilt, your life force drains away – along with your confidence, abundance, and self-respect. It leaves you feeling yucky and attracts what I call “seagulls”…people who dump their negativity (poop 💩), take your good energy (chippies 🍟), and then fly away.
It’s the absolute worst, because it blocks the blessings and abundance that the angels and the Universe are trying to give you. Yes, it literally blocks the abundance you earn and deserve!
As a spiritual seeker, you might feel it’s your job to give endlessly without expecting anything in return. But that’s not true. What you’re really doing is sending a strong message to the Universe and others that you are a bottomless pit of energy, a buffet for anyone who wants to take.
I know this all too well. When I was a brand-new business owner over 20 years ago, I over-delivered, undercharged, and let people walk all over me. I almost burned out and went broke. I had to make a choice: change, or give up.
That’s when I learned the importance of setting real boundaries—to protect my energy, my most precious asset, and to safeguard my business. I learned the hard way so that you don’t have to make the same mistakes.
Here are some of the boundaries I put in place that transformed my business, attracted respectful and grateful clients, and protected my energy:
1. Treat Your Gifts as Precious Resources
Your intuitive and healing gifts are not for everyone. If you give them away freely, they deplete and can become blocked. I teach my students to protect their gifts with psychic protection and professional boundaries – so their energy stays strong, their gifts stay sharp, and they become booked out, in-demand practitioners rather than a drop-in centre for anyone who asks.
2. Set Strong Policies Around Energy Exchange
I used to accept bartering, “mates rates,” and discounted services, and it nearly ruined my business. One client paid pennies for a reading and took weeks to pay while living the high life. Your pricing should reflect your service and provide at he very least a living wage. Whether you offer discounts or not, set strong boundaries and stick to them —it transforms your business and attracts the right clients.
3. You’re Not a Party Piece
When people find out what you do, they often want to “test” you – ask for a free reading or healing on the spot, at parties, lunch, or even during your own private self care time. This drains your energy and disrespects your gifts. My work only happens during set hours, in my healing space, and clients book formally. As a professional, you are not obliged to give your gifts away for free, discounted, or anywhere, anytime.
4. Disconnect Your Energy After Each Session
A mistake I see often is not properly disconnecting energetically from clients. Once a session is over, your work with that client is done – you must ensure that you are no longer psychically linked to them. Any follow-up requires a new session. This keeps your energy clear, your gifts sharp, and ensures you are in integrity with yourself and your clients.
Whether you are experienced or beginning as a healer and angel communicator, setting these boundaries transforms your gifts, your clients, and your business. You’ll attract clients who truly want to work with you, who pay in full, and who respect you as a professional rather than a free dumping ground for energy.
